Can AI Voices Speak Freely? Exploring Regulations and Legal Issues

The future of AI voices is bright, with the potential to revolutionize communication and interaction across a range of industries. From virtual assistants to chatbots handling customer service inquiries, these synthetic voices are an increasingly familiar part of our daily lives. But with this growth comes a crucial question:

Can AI voices speak freely, or are they bound by the same regulations and legal issues that govern human speech?

AI voices operate within a complex legal landscape that's still evolving. Trained on massive datasets of human speech companies need to be transparent about data collection practices and user consents. To combat spam and smishing, regulations are tightening. The UK regulator has issued new Know Your Customer (KYC) guidelines. Starting from May 27, 2024 Twilio for all new UK long codes need platform users to have an approved UK Registration Compliance (RC) bundle. This bundle verifies the callers identity so as to continue sending messages or making calls.
